
Welcome to Mr. Todd Oehler!
Mr. Oehler will be student teaching at CMS working with all three bands from 10/21 through the Winter Concert on 12/18. Here is his biography so you can get to know him:
Todd Oehler is a senior at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, MD majoring in trumpet performance and music education. Todd plays principal trumpet with the Peabody Conductor’s Orchestra and is a member of the Old Bay Brass quintet. Throughout his time at Peabody, he has had the pleasure of working with Joseph Young and Marin Alsop in numerous orchestras. Todd’s career has prominently been soloing at numerous venues in Baltimore, including the Baltimore Basilica. In addition to his performance career, Todd takes tremendous pride in his teaching, having worked with public schools in Howard County, private music schools, and his own private studio. Todd has won the Pamela M. Marshall perpetual trophy and the Geoffrey B. Dougherty Memorial trophy in competition for his coach horn playing, and was given the Marie Evelyn Kinsman and the Deering Endowed scholarships by the Peabody Conservatory.

Information
The HCPSS Middle School Gifted & Talented - Honors Band are countywide musical opportunities for band students who excel in their school band programs. The goal of this program is to provide a unique, musically rich, educational experience for middle school band students. All HCPSS MS band members are encouraged to apply/audition for this AMAZING experience. The MS GT-Honors Band will seat 3 different ensembles this year.

CONCERT PERFORMANCE
MS Honors Band: Saturday, January 11, 2020 (7:00 PM) at Marriotts Ridge HS
MS Symphonic Band: Sunday, January 12, 2020 (3:00 PM) at Marriotts Ridge HS
MS Wind Ensemble: Sunday, January 12, 2020 (3:00 PM) at Marriotts Ridge HS
PARTICIPATION FEE
Students selected to participate will be charged a fee of $100.00 to cover the costs associated with this program. *All fees will be due prior to the first rehearsal!
AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
Audition (performance) requirements are the same as for the Maryland Junior All State Band. MMEA All State audition requirements can be found here or by visiting www.mmea-maryland.org.
NOTE: Students should have original “published” copies of the audition music for the audition. Photocopies or downloaded music will not be permitted at the audition.
Audition Date: Tuesday, October 29, 2019
Audition Site: Ellicott Mills MS, 4445 Montgomery Road, Ellicott City, MD 21043
Audition Times: 4:00pm – 9:00pm
*Based on the judges’ scores... selected flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, and trumpet students may be asked to audition in a finals room. This could take up to an additional 45 minutes.
Notification: Band directors will receive student audition times by Monday, October 14, 2019.
APPLICATION - SELECTION PROCESS
Students can apply by logging onto www.hcpss.org/academics/fine-arts/music/gt. Follow the links for Middle School GT-Honors Band - Application. The deadline for applications is Monday, October 7, 2019.
*Ensemble rosters will be released to Directors no later than Monday, November 4, 2019.

REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants MUST be current 6th, 7th, or 8th grade students enrolled in a HCPSS middle school.
- Applicants MUST be members of their school band program.
- Applicants MUST apply online and audition in person for consideration.
- Applicants MUST commit to the full rehearsal/performance schedule to be considered.
GUIDELINES
- Students are registering to audition for placement into one of three (3) ensembles and as such are making a primary commitment to participate fully and actively, regardless of ensemble placement.
- It is the parents’/guardians’ responsibility to transport students to and from rehearsals / performance.
- Attendance at rehearsals / concert (on time, for the full duration) is expected! Please compare the GT/Honors Band schedule with your personal calendar to check for conflicts before registering.
- Students selected for any of the three (3) ensembles are expected to participate fully and will be responsible for music preparation prior to each rehearsal.
- All GT-Honors Band candidates must audition. There will be one audition date and site. Audition requirements are the same for all ensembles.
